Goals: see how you did, a month or a year at a time

Setting goals was only ever half a loop. You could plan the year — the month picker in Salon Settings → Goals was never limited to the current month — but once a month closed, how it actually went against its target became unreachable. Two changes close that loop.

On the dashboard: pick a month

Switch Compare to Goals and the date control is now a month picker rather than a pinned range. It opens on the current month, as before. Move it back and the same tiles show how that month ended.

Reviewing a finished month drops the pace language, because a month that's over has no pace left to run:

  • No day target and no catch-up rate — both describe a month still in progress.
  • Behind pace becomes Below target: one verdict for the month, not a mid-month projection.
  • Hitting the target early still shows as met. A win is a win.

Leaving Goals restores whatever date range you had before, so browsing months doesn't disturb your usual view.

In Reports: the whole year at once

Goal Attainment (in Draft Reports) puts twelve months side by side — one row per month, one column per target. It's built to be read as a trajectory rather than a scorecard: months you hit are marked, months you missed are simply not marked, and nothing is ranked. The point is to see which targets you consistently hit and which you consistently miss, which is a more useful question than any single month's verdict.

Pick a location and a date range, then run it. A month whose target was inherited from an earlier month is marked Carried forward — worth knowing, because "we missed it" and "no target was ever set for this month" are different situations.

Percentage revenue goals grade the same way they do on the dashboard: a Month-over-Month or Year-over-Year % goal is resolved to the dollar figure it works out to for each month — the prior month's (or prior year's same month's) full revenue plus your percentage — and the month is graded against that.

What isn't graded for a past month

Three things, all for the same underlying reason — some numbers only exist in the present tense:

  • 7-Day Appointments counts what's on the books for the next seven days. There's no historical version of it to compare against.
  • New memberships this month — relabelled from a bare "New Memberships" so it is clear the figure counts membership sales in the month rather than some other monthly activity; the Goals settings summary uses the same wording. It can't be graded for a month that has already closed. Suspended memberships are only stored as a daily snapshot, the same limitation described under Systemwide Data — so a membership figure for a past month can't be reconstructed the way revenue or visits can.
  • Utilization for a past month is measured against your current staff schedule. Schedules are a live rule set rather than a historical record, so an older month is compared against the roster as it stands now. Treat those figures as a guide.

Everything else — revenue, visits, average sale, retail %, rebooking % — is measured against what actually happened.

A dash means there's no data for that month. It isn't a zero, and it isn't a missed target — a location with no sales recorded for a month shows a dash, not $0, so an empty month can't be mistaken for a catastrophic one.
