Weekly PE Summary: choose how budget is measured
Weekly PE Summary can now measure against budget two ways, and its budget figures are exact for month-shaped date ranges.
Two ways to read budget
The Summary tab has a new Budget toggle next to the tab switcher.
Prorated is how the report has always worked, and stays the default. It compares sales in the range you picked against the budget for exactly that range. Nine days selected, nine days of budget.
Pace answers a different question: are we going to make the month? It takes each system's sales so far, projects the rest of the calendar month using that system's own day-of-week averages, and compares the result to the whole month's budget. A Tuesday and a Saturday are not interchangeable, so the projection weights them separately.
Pace deliberately reports on the full calendar month, not the range in the date picker — that is the whole point of it. Because of that it is only offered when your range starts on the 1st of a month. Pick 1 June through today and the toggle is available; pick an arbitrary week and it is greyed out, with the reason on hover. The report's default range is the last seven days, so you will need to change the dates to use it.
Each system is projected from its own most recent day of sales. If one system's data is running a day or two behind the others, it still projects those missing days rather than quietly reporting a low number.
The Excel export carries both — a Summary tab and a Summary (Pace) tab — so the download does not depend on where you left the toggle.
Budget figures are now exact
Budget totals for month-shaped ranges were previously off by a fraction of a percent, in either direction, depending on which weekday the month happened to begin on. On a month worth several million dollars that could be tens of thousands.
That is fixed. Budget numbers on month-range runs will shift slightly from what you saw before — the new figures are the correct ones.
Nothing about how you enter or import budgets changes, and no budget you have already set needs re-entering. Systems whose budget was typed in by hand rather than imported from a workbook are unaffected.
